A recognized methodology developing children’s memory, concentration and logical thinking through arithmetic – calculating using an abacus initially. Over time the calculation speed becomes faster and faster, and children begin to multiply, divide, add and subtract mentally, without the help of an abacus.
The course program provides an opportunity for the intensive development of children’s cognitive and creative abilities. They take their first steps in mathematics, and it holds a special place in their intellectual development.
In the process of mental arithmetic activities, both hemispheres of the brain work simultaneously. Such activity stimulates harmonious intellectual development, improves memory, imagination and logical thinking.
Mental arithmetic unfolds creative and analytical thinking, improves concentration, photographic memory, imagination, logical thinking, as well as observation and hearing skills. This isn’t just a mental calculation, because the ability to find answers to the most difficult tasks within seconds develops the right hemisphere of the brain, which is responsible for imagination and figurative thinking.
The left hemisphere of the brain is responsible for the skills of calculation, speech and logic, and the right – for imagination and figurative thinking. A child whose cerebral hemispheres develop harmoniously can approach any task and problem from different angles, at an enviable speed.
Lessons are usually organized in a group of 4 to 10 children. Each course follows a common storyline. The teacher is fully engaged and emotionally presents the course material. The exercises alternate with interactive activities. Mobile activities and logic games are included.
Working at home is one of the main factors with impact on the outcome of classes. We recommend you to make sure that your child spends 15-20 minutes a day doing homework, abacus calculation (new topics) and mental calculation (passed topics).
To effectively master the program, the child should exercise at home for 15 minutes every day. For convenience in preparing and checking homework, we have developed an online platform for students and teachers. Using the online platform increases the speed and efficiency of learning by 40%.
Successful completion of the first level (S) is enough for participation. The tasks during the SmartyKids Olympiads are prepared according to the age and level of the children studying at the SmartyKids centers, so even for beginners it is an exciting experience. And how fun it is to meet and chat with children from all over the state or internationally, with the entertainment program and the very fact of participation! The motivation for learning and development remains for a whole year.
Juliana Dukadinoska is the owner of the center and also teaches Mental arithmetic. She is born in Macedonia but lives with her family in Slovenia for 5 years. She studied Italian and English language but her roles were always linked with management. She is always exploring and looking for new challenges and this is how she got attracted by the abacus and the Smarty program. She is hoping that she will be able to transfer the love of studding through play to her own children and to all children that will visit the center.
Aleksandra Škoflek by education is a preschool teacher. She also worked as an assistant teacher in a kindergarten, for children from 1 year old to 5 years old preschool children.
